Summary

Design Team Captain (DTC) provides overall management of one or more specific engineering & design efforts to ensure that the client receives a facility designed, and engineered within the scope of the contracts to meet their needs on time and within budgets. Also coordinates directly with construction leadership team, either Austin’s or others’, to ensure constructability and support of construction operations. The DTC is responsible for the successful delivery of the engineering scope of work on a project, within the terms of the contract, on time, on budget and of the highest quality. Also, at times, acts as the liaison between the client and Austin. Functionally reports to the Manager of Engineering & Design, within the project team structure supports the Project Manager and project team.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Participates in project estimating and proposal preparation to the extent required (work effort / hours estimation). Enters all information for engineering change notifications, meeting minutes and engineering change orders. Reviews assigned project(s) after awarded to Austin to help define project scope, assist in determining plan for successful delivery, coordinates engineering pull planning, and helps develop schedules, and budgets. Regularly works with the project manager and sometimes in direct contact with the client representative to obtain the more detailed information required to assure that engineering decisions on project/implementation meet client operational needs and are in line with the contractual scope of work. Coordinates overall engineering effort across disciplines, reviews technical design conditions and makes recommendation back to the responsible engineer related to design improvement concepts, manages work effort and project team. Documents all changes in scope, see that the project manager (or client) understands the consequent changes in cost and time and that the project manager (or client) authorizes the changes, then coordinates all changes between the various departments and with the field. Holds regularly scheduled (usually weekly) project status check in meetings to ensure that project is progressing and that team is coordinated. Works with Manager of Engineering & Design to assemble and plan the assignment of the best possible resources to a project effort.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Min. Bachelor’s degree in engineering or architecture with 10 years of experience, including 3 or more years of experience in multi-discipline project team leadership. Field construction experience is a plus. Professional Registration is preferred. Prior job assignments typically include project engineering or project architect responsibilities.

Summary

Independently performs detailed phases of design engineering work for a project of moderate size and complexity to design and engineer Plumbing, Piping, HVAC and Fire Protection systems to assure safe reliable and energy efficient operation. This requires the application of standard design engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria where the scope is already outlined in the form of contract drawings, specifications, one-line drawings and component estimates derived during the Step 1 (preliminary engineering) process. The candidate must be fully competent in all conventional aspects of design engineering and be capable of planning and conducting tasks requiring independent judgment in the evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard design engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria.

Reviews vendor bids and drawings for major components to be used in the system to assure compliance with specifications, code and requirements of the project. Reviews drawings and evaluates the need for design changes and makes appropriate recommendations. Consults with construction personnel concerning design constructability as related to field conditions, sequencing, and scheduling of construction activities. Ensures that production of drawings, specifications, reports, and analyses meet scope, schedule, cost and quality requirements. May plan, schedule, coordinate, and oversee the work of lower-level engineers who assist with particular projects. Responsible for keeping current on new mechanical products and must be able to judge their suitability for specific uses. Should compile and communicate with said product representatives on a regular basis. Regularly does code review analysis at project initiation to determine special circumstances within the project that may create design or constructability issues.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Min. Bachelor’s degree in related field and 7 or more years of experience. A Master’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or Business is a plus, and could offset some experience requirements. Construction field experience is also a plus and could offset some experience requirements. Proficiency in utilizing various computer software packages such as AutoCAD and other automated engineering and design equipment.

Required Education

Min. Bachelor’s degree in related field (i.e. electrical or mechanical) and 7 or more years of experience. A Master’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical engineering or business is a plus, and could offset some experience requirements. Required skillset:

Design and engineer lighting, power, grounding, life safety and auxiliary systems for large scale industrial buildings which are complex in nature; Prepare construction drawings with use of REVIT, AutoCAD, BIM software; Engineering calculation for voltage drop, short circuit current and Arc fault study. Ideal candidate would also be a licensed professional engineer (PE) or able to qualify for PE license.

CES was founded in 1880 and is an Ohio nonprofit charitable corporation, organized for charitable, scientific and educational purposes within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service Code of 1986, as amended. ROLE:
To grow the membership and revenue of the Organization, and increase the presence of CES within the engineering and Northeast Ohio communities

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Develop and maintain an effective Social Media presence for the Organization
• Maintain a strong relationship with the Board and Partner Level Members
• Act as our Development Director in seeking Sponsors and Exhibitors for our events
• Meet or exceed the membership goals as defined by the Board
• Strengthen and/or develop strategic programs to increase revenue and membership
• Supervision of staff consisting of Associate Director and Program Coordinator
• Manage the annual Operating Budget


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor Degree in fields such as Marketing, Non-profit Administration, Education, Accounting, or others
• 5-7 years of professional work experience, with non-profit or non-profit Board experience a plus
• Experience utilizing Social Media to promote and market an organization and events and ability to update and maintain a website
• Fundraising and Development experience for a non-profit

SALARY AND BENEFITS

The CES Executive Director is a full-time position with a starting salary range of $55,000 - $60,000. CES benefits package includes: medical, dental, vision, short-term and long-term disability coverage, life insurance, 10 days of vacation, 8 paid holidays, 2 floating holidays and 1 personal day.
