Climate Change Committee Roundtable

As worldwide debate over climate change intensifies, the pressure is on for U.S. industry to take positive action to reduce its carbon footprint. One of the challenges for industry professionals is keeping abreast of current and upcoming climate change legislation, programs and carbon markets. In response to this challenge, CES has formed our Climate Change Committee. These meetings will provide participants an opportunity to meet with colleagues and discuss emerging climate change policy and its impact and implications for business and industry.

Topic: Forest Carbon Sequestration
Forests comprise greater than 21% of the world's land base and can sequester (store) up to 250 - 400 tons of carbon dioxide per acre. Forest carbon project types include afforestation/reforestation (planting), managed forests, long-lived wood products, and reduced emissions from deforestation and forest degradation. The presentation will briefly discuss the fundamentals of forest carbon, the current state of the voluntary forest carbon markets, and will touch on the forestry implications of pending federal cap and trade legislation.
